Savvas Theofanous is a legal professional with a strong commitment to both the theory and practice of law, and a particular interest in bridging commercial realities with effective dispute resolution in both contentious and non-contentious contexts.
He undertakes a wide range of civil, commercial and corporate matters, and he regularly represents local and international clients before the Cyprus Courts, particularly in complex cases involving an international dimension and frequently as part of multi-jurisdictional legal team.
His dispute resolution practice encompasses all aspects of civil and commercial litigation, arbitration, fraud, shareholders’ disputes, winding-up petitions, asset tracing and without notice interim relief, as well as the protection of minority shareholders and the registration and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards. His work has been consistently recognised, with outstanding client feedback in leading legal directories.
Savvas is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), the ICC Young Arbitration and ADR Forum (ICC YAAF) and the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS). He is also an Accredited Mediator for civil and commercial disputes.
His academic background reflects a strong grounding in legal principles and mechanisms applicable across both civil law and common law jurisdictions. He holds an LLM in International Commercial Law from the University of Bristol(UK), and an LLB from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in International Commercial Arbitration, with his doctoral research examining the consensual foundations of international commercial arbitration and the role of private international law in the arbitral process.
Alongside his legal practice, Savvas regularly publishes on developments in commercial litigation, international arbitration and private international law and is a frequent speaker and international legal conferences.
